Passenger traveling along Benin – Auchi highway were thrown in to pandemonium on Friday at least 18 passengers travelling in a newly launched Edo Line bus were abducted by unknown gunmen on Friday.
The abducted passengers were heading to Abuja where they were stopped, coerced into the bush before the police arrived at scene.
In a viral video of the unfortunate incident showed a long queue of vehicles parked on both sides of the expressway as panic spread among commuters.
The spokesperson of Edo State Police Command, Moses Iyamu has confirmed the incident on Saturday, adding that 16 kidnap victims have been rescued.
“Sixteen of these passengers have been rescued safely while the rescue operation by Edo State Police in synergy with vigilantes and hunters continues,” he said.
He added that a search-and-rescue mission has been intensified to secure the release of the two passengers still in captivity.
