Amidst killings, kidnapping, displacing villages, intimidation carried out by some heartless ”run and hide” bandits in some parts of the North West, some community leaders in Katsina State have initiated the signing of the Peace Accord with the Bandits
operating in Kurfi Local Government Area.
The agreement was signed on Thursday with the hope of ending the prolonged violence, kidnapping for ransom, serial killings, incessant attacks and cattle rustling which have been bothering the local government.
Sources said the signing of the agreement took place at Wurma forest, a notorious forest for insecurity in the state.
The agreement was signed in collaboration with both the district head of Kurfi, Alhaji Mansur Amadu Kurfi (the Maradin Katsina) and the local government chairman, Babangida Abdullahi Kurfi.
Some of the bandit leaders present at the venue include Alhaji Usman Kachalla Ruga, Sani Muhindinge, Yahaya Sani (Hayyu) and Alhaji Shu’aibu.
The bandit leaders promised to cease attacks, release those in their captivity and allow farmers to return to their lands without fear of harm or attack.
In the same vein, leaders of the community pledged to partner with the bandits to rehabilitate schools and hospitals and ensure fair treatment of detained members.
Sooth News appreciates all efforts towards reaching a permanent solution to the menace of banditry in the Country, however cautioned that such peace accord should be done with all sincerity of purpose. Recently, many worshippers were attacked, killed, abducted, while observing their morning prayer at Ungwan Mantau, in Malumfashi LGA of Katsina State.
Attacking worshippers in their places of worship has been on for quite sometime now, for instance, the Safe Mosque Attacked in 2024, Zamfara State, Birnin Gwari mosque attacked, Kaduna State, 2023, Bukkuyum Friday Mosque attack, 2022, Zamfara State, Maigamji Mosque attacked, 2023, Katsina State and Jibia, Katsina State, 2021 attacked on worshippers.
